GARP - Global and Anti-Racist
Perspectives within the Primary Curriculum
Contents
of the Primary GARP resources pack
The
main task for creating the GARP manual
was to create a curriculum map:
- for
the whole of the Primary National Curriculum
and RE, linked to QCA units,
- to
identify global and anti-racist perspectives
within every "topic" or unit,
- to
suggest resources to support the teaching of
those perspectives.
- To
list websites for each curriculum area.

In
this way, the inclusion of global and anti-racist rerspectives
would become an integral part of the whole curriculum.
In
addition, there are sections containing:
- cast studies
of successful pieces of work undertaken with children
and "bright ideas" for activities which
could be planned
- advice on how
to avoid reinforcing stereotypes, especially when
using photographs - something which many teachers
find challenging
- advice on opportunities
for Global Linking and on working with artists in
school
- a list of educational
suppliers who would be particularly useful in terms
of resources to support this work.
The
pack consists of a 385 page ring-bound file divided
into Foundation Stage, the primary National Curriculum
subjects, and additional sections on assemblies, ‘bright
ideas and case studies’, global partnerships, working
with artists, and general resources. Each curriculum
subject section is colourfully presented with an introduction
and then links to QCA Units and further resources.
In
addition to the file are two CD-roms - both report local
initiatives and provide a wealth of ideas and activities
for use with adults and pupils:
- Global
Citizen Resource pack - produced by the East Midlands
Network for Global Perspectives in Schools
- Anti-Racist
Maths Project
